A Las Vegas casino icon is returning to the gaming scene through a joint partnership between Boyd Gaming and FanDuel.
The Stardust Resort and Casino Resort grew to define Las Vegas in the early days of casino gambling. Construction on the famous resort and casino started in 1954 on what would later become the Las Vegas Strip. With strong ties to the mob, the Stardust first opened its doors to the gaming public in 1958. Now, you can sign up online and use a StarDust bonus code as well.
Boyd Gaming acquired the Stardust in 1985 and continued to run the casino until 2006. Part of the new plan was to demolish the original building and use the 60-acre property to build a $4.8 billion resort called Echelon Place.
The 2008 economic recession brought an end to those plans with the land remaining vacant until 2013. It was purchased by the Genting Group and earmarked to become Resorts World Las Vegas. This $4.3 billion-dollar casino and resort project remains on track to open sometime this year.
Meanwhile, Boyd Gaming retained the rights to the iconic Stardust brand. The new plan is to team up with FanDuel and relaunch the Stardust as an online casino platform. Still subject to regulatory approval, plans are in place to launch the site this April in both New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

FanDuel will rebrand its existing BetFair online casino in New Jersey into Boyd Gaming’s Stardust brand. The initial gaming options will include interactive slots as well as the popular table games Blackjack and Roulette.
The marketing tagline tied to this joint venture is to “tap into the golden age of gaming.”
Amy Howe is the FanDuel Group president. She released the following statement in conjunction with these plans:
“The new Stardust Casino will retain all of the great games that customers love on BetFair Casino, while incorporating a new stylish look that captures the glitz, glamour and nostalgia of old Las Vegas.”
Any casino player within the New Jersey and Pennsylvania state borders can access the Stardust Casino app for use on iOS and Android mobile devices.
FanDuel has teamed up with the land-based Atlantic City Golden Nugget to offer online gaming in New Jersey. In Pennsylvania, FanDuel runs its iGaming platform in conjunction with Boyd’s Valley Forge Casino.
The storied history of the Stardust can be traced back to Tony Cornero, who was a gambling entrepreneur while also being a infamous bootlegger during prohibition. He started construction on the Stardust in 1954 but died soon after under mysterious conditions.
The casino was finally completed in 1958 through an $800,000 investment by Rella Factor, who had strong ties to the mob through her husband John Factor.
The Stardust caught the attention of the Nevada Gaming Commission numerous times due some questionable business practices. In its heyday during the 1960’s and the 1970’s, the Stardust came to represent everything about Las Vegas as the desert gambling town was transformed into ‘Sin City.’
This newest transition into an online gaming brand represents Boyd Gaming’s first entry into this rapidly expanding form of real money casino gambling.
The Las Vegas-based gaming and hospitality company will retain ownership of the Stardust brand while leasing the name to FanDuel as part of this strategic partnership.
