The MLB Trade Deadline has been pushed back to the beginning of August, and this is a big day for teams all throughout baseball. Contending teams are looking for help, and the bad teams are willing to give away some talent.
Now that we are in the month of July, the playoff races are heating up in each league as well. Those MLB playoff betting odds will change in a big way depending on how teams reshape their roster over the next month of the season.
No Stopping the Yankees
The New York Yankees lead all of baseball with 61 wins on the year, and they are the clear betting favorites to win the World Series this season. New York is one of the betting favorites to win the World Series this season at +400, but they have some competition as well.
The Los Angeles Dodgers have joined the Yankees at +400, and those two teams are absolutely loaded with talent. The Houston Astros and New York Mets are listed at +500 and +700, respectively, and those four teams are all looking to add at the Trade Deadline.
Atlanta is another team that has good odds to win the World Series this year as they are being offered at +850. Some of those teams don’t have a ton of glaring needs, but adding some proven veterans will always make them tougher to beat.
Trades Will Impact Wild Card Races
Some of the divisions in each league are pretty wide open at the moment, and that should continue to be the case. Some of the biggest drama is actually going to come in the Wild Card races, and that’s exactly what the league office was hoping for by adding additional playoff teams.
There are seven teams within five games of each other in the American League Wild Card race, and that’s going to be a fun race to follow. Teams like the Texas Rangers and Los Angeles Angels are not in that group but could be if they upgrade at the Trade Deadline.
There are four National League teams within four games of the final Wild Card spot. Teams in the National League are all looking for pitching to battle the New York Mets, and there just aren’t that many dominant arms out there.
Plenty of Sellers
There might not be as many “sellers” in 2022 as there were a season ago, but there will still be plenty of teams in this position. Several teams sold off their top players during the offseason, and those teams just don’t have enough talent left.
The Chicago Cubs are going to be one team that is going to sell off some talent at the Trade Deadline, and other teams are eyeing Ian Happ and Willson Contreras. The Oakland Athletics still have some pitching
