Updated:

Kansas sports betting is coming soon! Right now FanDuel Sportsbook is offering a pre-registration bonus of $100 in free bets.

The state is looking to legalize both retail and online sports betting, and that could allow the state to bring in some strong numbers from sports betting. Legislators will again attempt to pass the KS sports betting bill in 2021, and there will likely be plenty of support.

Kansas is not known to be a state with a strong sports culture, but it could soon become one of the latest states to legalize and launch sports betting.

Kansas Sportsbooks

The most recent Kansas sports betting bills did not include any language talking about potential sportsbooks, and that will likely be a major debate moving forward. There are some Kansas casinos, and those properties would likely be able to offer retail sports betting.

Kansas online sports betting has been included in the most recent bills, and that would provide a chance for the state to bring in some real money through sports betting. Allowing online sportsbooks to enter the state would give bettors more options and would improve sports betting handle and revenue numbers.

KS Sports Betting Rules

There wasn’t a ton of information included in KS sports betting bills in terms of rules for the industry, but that should be ironed out in 2021. Allowing betting on professional sports will obviously be included, but the state will need to make a decision on college and esports events.

Letting sportsbooks offer betting on college and esports betting markets could entice more online operators into the state and would bring in more revenue.

KS Sports Betting Regulations

Kansas was actually one of the first states to discuss sports betting after the PASPA was lifted by the US Supreme Court in 2018. There were three different sports betting bills introduced at that time, but none were able to make it out of committee.

2019 was a slow year for sports betting legislation as lawmakers could not come to an agreement as to who should regulate the sports betting industry.

In 2020, the Kansas Senate passed SB 283 that called for betting to take place at the casinos in the state, and KS online sports betting would also be offered. That measure failed to pass through the House, leaving lawmakers searching for answers again in 2021.

Summary

2021 will be a big year for Kansas sports betting as a handful of bills are expected to be introduced. These bills will look to improve upon the legislation introduced in 2020 that failed to come before an official vote.

It is expected that Kansas online sports betting will be included in any bill that is brought forward, and that will be a great thing for sports bettors. Retail sports betting will also be available, although there likely will only be a handful of options.
