The Atlanta Falcons’ upcoming bye week is poorly timed considering their recent spike in form, and head coach Dan Quinn is out to restore some of the success his predecessor had when returning from the NFL break.
Mike Smith was the man in charge of the franchise between 2008 and 2014, during which time they lost only one of their seven post-bye week matchups—a win ratio of 85.7%.
That record is nowhere near as impressive under current caretaker Quinn, who has lost two of his three post-bye week outings in charge of Atlanta—a much less impressive win ratio of 33.3%.

Quinn’s only Falcons triumph under the circumstances was their 38-19 defeat of the Arizona Cardinals in 2016:
Atlanta will sit out the Week 8 but are due to return at the Washington Redskins In the Week 9 (Sunday, Nov. 4), who appears to be in the improving form and have won their last three fixtures at home.
Fortunately for Quinn and the Falcons, they’ve won their last five consecutive clashes with the Redskins, not to mention they’ve emerged as victors in each of their last three trips to FedEx Field.
Though they have no post-bye week meetings with Washington in recent memory, much to the disappointment of Washington DC online sports betting fans, Atlanta did defeat their NFC East rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles, twice following a bye week in 2012.
They also defeated the fellow NFC East dwellers, Giants. In their last outing though, the New York outfit is in something of a tailspin at present.
The Falcons haven’t inspired confidence. In fact, they sit at the bottom of the National Football League during this season, among the teams that are covering the spread. After seven matches, they’re one of four teams with the league-worst 2-5 record in covering the spread this season (28.6%) which is good to know if you are looking for the best sportsbook bonuses.
Kansas City sits at the other end of the spectrum and is the only outfit to have covered the spread in all seven of their games, but the Falcons are far from soaring when it comes to their record.
