Tennessee opened up its borders to legal sports betting on Nov. 1 of last year. What made this market unique was the lack of any land-based casino properties in the Volunteer State.
This meant that all sports betting in the state would take place online through the use of mobile sportsbook apps. US sportsbook industry leaders such as FanDuel and DraftKings were part of that original list of licensed betting apps.
The overall list of licensed online sportsbook operators in Tennessee expanded to seven with the launch of WynnBET on the final day of April. Part of the decision to delay the launch from earlier in the year was to make its debut ahead of this year’s Kentucky Derby on May 1.
WynnBET had previously received state approval through the Sports Wagering Committee and the Tennessee Education Lottery Corp.
Along with FanDuel, DraftKings and now WynnBET, the other four online sportsbook operators in Tennessee are:
- BetMGM
- TwinSpires
- William Hill
- Tennessee Action 24/7
Monthly sports betting volume continues to grow at a healthy pace since the Nov. 1 launch. Tennessee’s total betting handle for February was $176.3 million. It increased $29.6 million in March to top $205.9 million.
Along with a big boost from college basketball and additional betting days, March numbers were bolstered by the recent rollouts by TwinSpires and William Hill.

The addition of WynnBET along with the start of both the NBA and NHL playoffs paints a positive picture for the state’s betting results this May.
The WynnBET Sportsbook App can be downloaded to any iOS or Android handheld device with internet access. It can also be accessed through a desktop or laptop computer.
Backed by Wynn Resorts, this US sportsbook operator was a bit late to the party when states were given the right to offer legal sports betting within its borders in May of 2018. However, WynnBET is quickly making up for lost time.
Tennessee marks the company’s sixth legal market in the US. It was already up and running in Colorado, Indiana, Michigan, New Jersey and Virginia.
New Jersey is the largest sports betting market in the country on the strength of its mobile betting handle. The Garden State has come close to topping the $1 billion mark for total sports betting in a month.
As part of WynnBET’s expansion plans, the operator has already formed strategic partnerships with NASCAR and the NBA’s Memphis Grizzlies and Detroit Pistons.
The rollout plans in Tennessee will be backed by an aggressive promotional campaign to help drive downloads of the app.
Based in Las Vegas, Wynn Resorts offers three tiers as part of its Wynn Rewards customer loyalty program. The entry level is Red moving upward to Platinum and Black. This is mainly tied to gaming at the company’s land-based venues.
It is speculated that WynnBET may offer some type of tie-in with its retail casino rewards program down the road. The company’s interactive division does offer online casino gaming in the state of New Jersey through WynnBET Casino NJ. This was made possible through an in-state partnership with Caesars Atlantic City.
